In my ad, the promise that is being sent to the audience is that it you have a healthier foods, such as vegetables, then you will lose weight. The image has a humongous lady, in a bikini, and at the beach. This picture will hopefully inspire citizens to drop weight and be able to enjoy the smaller things in life such as going to the beach and and not being so self concious about their body. They refer to over weight citizens as whales and the term used for there the extra weight is blubber. Whales are not the smallest animals in the ocean, there for, the people of the United States are growing and creating a similar image for them selves. According to Seth Doane, a news reporter from CBS, plenty of food disorders are blamed on cost and convenience. Now that the united states is on a tight budget due to the economy, eating healthy is an even smaller priority. Eating a salad from a restaurant or a fast food dinner isn’t exactly the cheapest item on a menu. So instead of taking time to make a meal at home or spending a little extra cash on a salad they turn to the dollar menu. Mcdonalds, a fast food franchise, is famous for all of there inexpensive food.
To some pedestrians price is not an issue, but taste is. Many citizens just enjoy the greasy texture of hamburgers, pizza, and hot dogs. They never turn to eat a potato soup, carrots with ranch, or cucumber with salt and lemon. A bigger body also comes with bigger risk. Every day activities such as work or sports become harder due to the couple of extra pounds. And it can be a death factor as years go on. The heart beats slower, more likely to get kidney stones, high cholesteral, all hazardous to life. So is eating vegetables over a period of time worth the weight?

  1. Your analysis on the ad is right on spot. I also think that they are trying to get their message out to overweight people. Another point they are probably trying to get across is that people need to stop eating whale meat or animal meat in general and therefore "lose the blubber", since this is a PETA ad I think that would be reasonable.

  2. I think that this ad is a good way to make people think twice about what they get at a restaurant. But also like you said peoples pockets have a big impact on what they get too, $1 hamburgers vs a $5 salad. That can make a big differance too.

  3. One more point that I think this ad is trying to make by saying "save the whales", is that Americans are actually endangered because of their diets. Obesity has risen so much that it is actually being called a disease now.
